Sensor connector was a bit wet but I blowed on it and dried it but still didn't change a thing. Nevertheless, the float stick was still floating and there was still some fluid left inside the reservoir. I checked the coolant reservoir and float stick was slightly below the 'low line'. I removed the sensor from the tank and just connected it and without starting the car (just ignition) it gave coolant light so the sensor is not faulty. In the last few days the 'low coolant' light has been intermittently turning on on my friends BMW X3 (2007 70K miles). ![]() Expansion tank at cold is at the MAX level so I don't know where to look. I added some coolant aswell after driving the first time because when the thermostat opens it lets a lot of coolant flow. I bled the system several times, putting the heater on maximum heat, minimal fan speed and removing the bleeder valve until there are no bubbles, I repeated this and only water came out, and then I jacked up the front and repeated it again and yet again only water came out so I don't think that I have any air in the system. Also, if doing therm and wp and you dont know when ET was done, Id recommend you do more. Sometimes it turns off after 15 minutes of driving and it stays off but when I turn the car off and start it again, the light just turns on again after 60 seconds but again after some driving it goes away, sometimes it does stay on though. For now, just add coolant until your dipstick is between min and max when cold-50/50 mix-but if youre going to do a DIY soon, and your temps are warm, just plain distilled water is fine. I replaced the parts and my car is up and running again but after 30-60 seconds of idling the coolant level light turns on. For those who know, BMW uses Hella sensor from the factory (Like the Oil Level Sensor for example) so it's not a cheap brand by any means. ![]() I got myself a Hella Expansion Tank, Hella ET Cap and Hella Level Sensor. BMW dealers in my area didn't have the part and it needed to be ordered but I didn't have the time for that so I went aftermarket. I bought an E46 330Ci 2001 with 90k miles about a month ago and it decided to blow up the Expansion Tank while I was stuck in traffic.
